RCIA Candidates

Matthew Zicher

Matt and his wife, Alexis, moved from Chicago to New Albany. They have a one-year-old daughter, Zoey. Matt is very excited to be completing his Sacraments of Initiation and joining Holy Family this Easter. He said, “I truly believe this church will be a large part of my life, as well as my family’s.” Matt works as a project and event manager and enjoys golfing on the weekends.

Preparing for Zoey’s baptism helped Matt realize God was calling him to join the Catholic Church. Alexis supported him by asking if he wanted to learn more and, eventually, encouraged him to join RCIA. “Learning more about Jesus Christ’s life and the miracles He performed” has been the most surprising part of Matt’s RCIA journey.

Lindsey Dixon

Lindsey was born and raised in southern Indiana and graduated from Henryville High School in 2013. She and her fiancé, Christian Smith, currently live near Salem. Her seven-year-old son, Lukas, will also be joining the Catholic Church this Easter. Lindsey currently works as a medical coder, her favorite vacation destination is Ouray, Colorado (where Christian proposed to her!), and her favorite saint is St. Margaret of Cortona.

Lindsey enjoys quality time with my friends and family and trying new restaurants and coffee shops. She recently moved to a farm and is enjoying a newfound love of gardening and taking care of the animals. One day she hopes to start a women’s bible study and reach out to other young mothers in the community, in and outside of the church. “I'm very excited to be a part of this parish, and can’t wait to meet all of you!”

Christian and his family introduced Lindsey to the Catholic Church. “I saw the way they lived their life, relying on God in all things. I knew I wanted that for my life, as well as my son’s life.” Her future sister-in-law and sponsor, Kathryn, has been influential in her journey. “She encourages me all the time, and opens up new conversations about my faith and how God is working in my life,” said Lindsey.

The most surprising thing during this journey has been how much she’s grown in her faith. “I thought RCIA would be something that I went to on Wednesday, and I’d go about my day. The things I’ve learned have opened me up to a whole new world where everything in my life has changed. The way I live my life is now bringing me closer to Jesus, not further. I’m happier.”

Lindsey and Lukas are pictured here with Christian and Archbishop Thompson. Please help welcome them to Holy Family, and continue to pray for them as they prepare to receive the Sacraments!

Bruce Cunningham

Bruce is a lifelong resident of Harrison County and has been married to his wonderful wife Julie for over 35 years. Along with their four sons, Bruce says he has three of the “most special grandchildren anyone could ask for.” Bruce currently works as the General Manager at South Harrison Water in Corydon and served our country for 10 years in the US Navy. His favorite saint is St. Joseph and his favorite hobbies are hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors.

Bruce has attended Mass with his wife and children for over 35 years, many of those years at Holy Family. It was after an illness and death of a close family member in 2021 that sparked his decision to fully join the Church. Many people have encouraged him along the way, and he says his “eyes and ears were just finally opened to the ways of the Lord.” There haven’t been any big surprises for him during this time of preparation, but he wants us to know we are lucky to have Fr. Jeremy as a pastor. “He does not just go through the motions of Mass. He engages the congregation. What a joy!”

Bruce is pictured here holding his grandson. Julie is to his right, and his son and daughter-in-law are to the left of Archbishop Thompson. Please pray for him as he prepares to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church!
