Joann C. Weaver Mother of Friar Mark Weaver, OFM Conv. Passes Away

Joann C. Weaver, 94, of Carey, passed away at 2:35am on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Upper Sandusky.

Joann was born on September 17, 1928 in Tiffin to Cletus J. and Irene (Boes) Gase. She married Raymond Weaver on October 4, 1950 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin. Raymond preceded her in death on November 18, 2000.

Joann is survived by 11 children: Fr. Mark Weaver of New Albany, Indiana, Ann (Ron) Zoeller of Kansas, Ohio, Paul Weaver of Carey, Jean (Greg, deceased) Patton of Carey, Mary (Dave) Burget of Findlay, Joan (Emery) Calloway of Upper Sandusky, John Weaver of Carey, James Weaver of Attica, Lois (Alan) Taylor of Carey, Patrick (Tina) Weaver of Findlay, and Joseph (Brenda) Weaver of Carey. She is also survived by 33 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, 8 step-great grandchildren, a sister Barbara Mullennex of Tiffin, a son in-law Lee Mathias of Carey and countless nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, Jane Mathias, brothers: Francis, Lawrence, Richard, and Russell Gase, son in-law, Greg Patton, and a grandson, Robert Patton.

Joann was a 1946 graduate of Calvert High School in Tiffin. After many years of marriage and raising twelve children, she devoted herself to the service of the Lord and others through countless church activities, especially with the Secular Franciscan Order, Rosary Altar Society and Catholic Ladies of Columbia. She was an avid gardener and crafter. Joann made afghans and rosaries for loved ones and community members.

Joann enjoyed traveling with her husband, and, for quite a while now, has been looking forward to her final trip to….Heaven!

Visitation will be 5 – 8pm on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey, with a Rosary and Remembrance service starting at 8:00pm.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, with her son, Rev. Mark Weaver, OFM Conv, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Carey.
