Important Staff News - Theresa Shaw

For the past year, Theresa Shaw, the Director of Family Faith Formation and cherished member of the Holy Family ministry team has been battling cancer.  Many of you were aware of this and have been praying for her and supporting her. Thank you and please continue. We are saddened to announce that as her struggle continues, Theresa has been required to take a permanent medical-induced leave and, in essence, to retire from Holy Family. We pray this will allow Theresa to focus on her health and to spend time with family and friends.

Theresa has faithfully served the parishioners and parish for close to 17 years. Theresa has been a staff member at Holy Family since 2005, filling many roles over the years both in the parish and school. She has a tremendous love for the Lord and desire to bring others to Christ. This love she has shared with children from the young people in Children's Faith Formation (CFF) to childcare services in the school. Theresa walked with many young people in preparation for Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil from the parish and school. She was instrumental information for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion, as well as coordinating Vacation Bible School. Many of our youngest knew Theresa from her assistance in overseeing and teaching Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW), among many other roles! She was instrumental in introducing the inspiring Totus Tuus to Holy Family and the New Albany Deanery. Her ministry was not only with the young. Pre-Covid, Theresa had intergenerational activities and catechetical opportunities as well as a regular Book Club. Theresa looks forward to spending more time with her husband David and three children, Ben, Christopher, and Andrea. She will also have additional time to enjoy her hobbies of reading, scrapbooking/card making, and playing cards. While no one would ever want this for her, she has commented how this particular cross has helped her to grow more in her relationship with God and closeness to Christ, showing even now she continues to teach and witness.

Theresa’s stepping down is our loss, but a well-deserved respite for her. The parish is hosting an Open House Celebration in honor of Theresa’s life and ministry on May 15, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. in the Holy Family School Cafeteria. Please stop in to thank her and share your gratitude with Theresa during this time!
