From the Pastor’s Desk

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

“Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain wisdom of heart.”

In the gospel for this weekend, Jesus challenges us to examine how committed we are to the Kingdom of God before we take up the gospel road with him. If we give our hearts completely to Jesus and the work of the Kingdom, we shall have to love with all our hearts, holding nothing back.  The writer of Wisdom tells us that there is no room for timidity in the pursuit of eternal things.  Jesus warns us that there are no alliances – family, career, friendships –which can take priority over doing what God needs us to do.

This means, of course, that we will eventually suffer and suffer greatly.  First, because there will be days when two very good choices present themselves to us, but only one will hold growth and greater maturity for us.  Second, there will be times when a decision will be demanded of us which will not wait until tomorrow. Time won’t wait. Painfully we shall have to make the best choice and live with it.

What has been the cost of discipleship for us? Is there good news for us to be found in that cost?  God has given us a small space of time and a few talents and told us, “Make me something beautiful.”  May the Holy Spirit teach us how to number our days aright.

Please pray for me…Fr Dan
