Religious Education & Faith Formation

RCIA – (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) This is for anyone who is interested in learning more about becoming a Catholic and for someone who has been baptized Catholic, but never received First Communion and Confirmation. Please contact Fr. Jeremy Gries at (812) 944-8283 ext 1.

The process consists of weekly meetings during which we share the gospel and introduce Catholic teachings.

These meetings begin in the fall and culminate at the Easter Vigil when participants receive the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist. The process also includes on-going formation after Easter.

If you have an interest in being involved as a sponsor or catechist, please contact Fr. Jeremy Gries at (812) 944-8283 ext. 1.

Holy Family Book Club – If you would like to join us, please call Karen in the Parish Office. Holy Family Book Club meets the second Wednesday of every month at 1pm. Information about the current book will be shared in the weekly bulletin.

Catholicism, Coffee, and Donuts- meets Sunday mornings following the 8:00 am Mass in the cafeteria. This is generally a book discussion group relating to Catholic topics while enjoying fellowship, coffee, and donuts. Anyone is welcome to attend. Please contact Karen Schoenfelder 812-944-8283 ext. 0.

RCIA Adapted for Children – (Rite of Christian Initiation adapted for Children) Normally the children of Catholic parents are baptized as infants, but this is not always the case. The RCIA adapted for Children process is for children, ages 7 and up, who have not received Baptism or First Communion to receive extra Sacramental Preparation in anticipation of receiving these sacraments.

Catholic Faith Formation Classes – The ministry of Religious Education classes for students who attend public school is held one Saturday per month (generally the 2nd) for grades K-8. We begin at 9:00am and end at 12:00pm in the Day Activity Center. There is time for instruction, crafts, snacks, and prayer.

The high school Religious Education classes are held on Sundays following the 10:30 Mass. We invite and encourage all Freshman through Seniors who attend public schools to join us in continuing their faith formation.

Calendars and registration forms may be found on the FORMS page. Look for Religious Education and click on either schedule or registration forms. For more information, you may also contact Theresa Shaw at 944-8283 x5 or [email protected].

Vacation Bible School – Holy Family is currently utilizing the Totus Tuus (Latin for "Totally Yours", the motto of St. Pope John Paul II) program offered by the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, in conjunction with St. Anthony's, OLPH, and St. Mary's, New Albany. Your child will be enthralled with learning about the Catholic faith, games, skits, and other activities! The Totus Tuus team presenting the program are all college-age students in love with their Catholic faith.

There are daytime sessions (9:30am-2:30pm M-F) for grades 1-6 and evening sessions (7:00pm-9:00pm S-Th) for Jr. and Sr. High students.

The program will rotate parishes each year. Since we are beholden to the Archdiocese for scheduling, the dates may change each year, but our goal is to hold it in June. Please watch the bulletin and parish emails for information on site and date each year.

NOTE: Due to COVID-19 there will be no Totus Tuus in 2020.

Holy Family School – Holy Family School is the parish school with students from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th Grade. Visit their website at

Catholic Faith Formation Commission – The Faith Formation Commission is a team of 6-9 parishioners who meet bi-monthly to oversee the religious education of the parish by

  • assessing parish religious educational needs and
  • planning for future programs

If you have would like to join any of these formation programs, of if you have any questions or suggestions for these or other areas of interest, please feel free to contact Theresa Shaw [email protected].
