Browsing Pastor's Notes

30th Sunday in Ordinary Time

With some folks rolling off the Parish Pastoral Council, I am looking for new colleagues. If you or someone you know would bring a faithful, Spirit-filled, mission-oriented, community-minded, Catholic-Christian perspective to these committees with some practical skill sets, I’d be open to your name. Both of these groups currently meet every other month, so the time commitment is pretty modest, with some minor review and feedback requests between gatherings

Thank you to Carl & Mary Kay Wolford for their many, many years of service in a variety of areas. After a number of years in active leadership on the parish Liturgy Committee, their role has now become an ‘honorary’ one. For years, they helped organize, train, and actively participate in the proclamation of the Word of God as Lectors. Their love for the Christ and the Church is evident in their faithfulness and generosity of time & service. This small engagement in our Liturgical life is but a small part of the positive ministry, service, and impact here at Holy Family. Their Catholic Christian lives of services and engagement extends well beyond Holy Family. They have been active contributors to neighboring parishes, Archdiocesan committees & organizations, as well as other Catholic agencies & communities throughout the area, such as Saint Meinrad and St Elizabeth Catholic Charities.

In 1983, with the support of Father Gerald Burkert, Carl and Mary Kay Wolford were among the founding members of Holy Family‘s St. Vincent de Paul Society conference. Over the next four decades, holding every position possible in our conference, their most valuable role has been being the eyes, heart, and arms of Jesus to literally thousands in our community. As Carl recently retired as our conference treasurer, we want to thank Carl and Mary Kay for their decades of service and their example. May God continue to richly bless them! Carl & Mary Kay have been – and are – a tremendous blessing for the local and greater Catholic community for which we give thanks!

My hope and prayer as pastor is that you – fellow parishioners – see the joy and wondrous fruit and fullness of life that flows from faithful lives of prayer and service in the Catholic Church. There are many like Carl and Mary Kay in our midst, which is wonderful. And yet, the call for each of us is play our unique role. And simply holding down a pew is no one’s role. We must pray, we must put into practice what we say and believe in loving response to God who has first loved us – not in mere words, but in intentional concrete action. When and where and why will your name be put in the bulletin followed by Thanks? The mission of Christ and the Church is in need. Not just so ministry gets done, but because in the living of the ministry we are filled more perfectly with the Mission of Christ and the Church – to love God and neighbor. To become the saint that God desires you to be.
