Parishioner Gertrude W. Grove Passes Away

Gertrude W. Grove, 102 years of age, died peacefully on Monday, December 9, 2024 at Charlestown Place in New Albany, Indiana. She was surrounded by her loved ones as she went to join her savior, Jesus Christ.

Trudy was born to the late Herman and Clara Korbe Wolford on March 25, 1922. She was a proud graduate of Presentation Academy where she served as senior class president. She attended Nazareth College for two years and finished her bachelor’s degree in mathematics at Spalding University. She worked at Tube Turns in Louisville and later General Plywood where she met her husband, John M. Grove.

Trudy was a loving, stay-at-home mom to six children. She became a widow at age 47 and went back to work at the New Albany-Floyd County Schools where she remained until retirement.

Trudy lived a faith-filled life. She was a long-time parishioner at Holy Family Church, New Albany, and a member of its Marian Guild.

Trudy rarely complained and always saw the cup as three-fourths full. She had a way of making people feel special, always ready with a compliment. Her words were always thoughtful and kind. She had a jovial sense of humor and loved sharing laughs with her family and friends. She also enjoyed a daily dose of ice cream.

Not many people get the honor of living to 102 years old. She lived longer than any of her fore parents going back six generations and Trudy did it with grace, beauty, and gentleness. Though she will be heartily missed, her family will be forever in awe of her beautiful spirit and her faith in God.

Trudy is preceded in death by her husband John “Lefty” Grove, her parents, Herman and Clara Wolford, her son Thomas Grove, her son-in-law, Mark Jennings, and her four siblings Mary Lee, Carl, Robert, and Dorothy.

She is survived by her sons, John (Cheryl), Jim (Janie), Tim (Mindy), Stephen (Lea), and her daughter Susan. She leaves behind 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
