Parishioner Finnley A. McCullum Passes Away

Finnley A. McCullum passed away of complications of a congenital heart issue at 8 years old on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. Finnley attended Trinity Learning Center Ministry for preschool, and then Grant Line Elementary school in New Albany, Indiana. He was always interested in learning something new and was genuinely curious about the world around him.

Finnley exuded pure joy and happiness. He was full of energy, curiosity, creativity, and passion for the things that he enjoyed, as well as the people that were important to him. He was always interested in unique foods from around the world, most especially, spicy foods. He loved sharing this passion with others and was rarely, if ever, matched with the intensity of the spice he could handle.

Finnley’s musical tastes, much like his taste in food, spanned the globe. He loved finding new and interesting music to listen to. He enjoyed everything from K-pop bands like BTS, to the Beatles and then somewhere in the middle you’d find him cranking out some Billie Elish, Taylor Swift, or XXXtentacion. He also enjoyed watching YouTube videos about foods, eating foods, and his favorite video games…and he really loved creepy and scary content.

Most of all, Finnley enjoyed spending time with his parents whether it was a trip to the zoo, Walt Disney World, or simply a walk in the stream exploring the world around him.

Finnley was born with a congenital heart defect. It caused him to have an arduous life involving five open-heart surgeries, numerous hospital stays and other medical issues that follow such a serious condition… but through it all, Finnley was unquestionably the strongest and bravest of us all, a true warrior.

Finnley will be deeply missed, and his memory will be cherished by many. He was a brilliant and pure light, shining innocence and love…and he made our world a better place.

He is survived by his loving and adoring parents, Sally Elam McCullum and Christopher A. McCullum. He is also survived by his paternal grandparents, Sheldon and Pat McCullum, his maternal grandmother, Kathy Elam, his Uncles Rich, Brett, and Chuck (Lavena), and Aunt Cheryl and many cousins.

The visitation and the funeral mass are both open to the public. The burial will be private.

The family requests that you wear purple in his honor. It was Finnley’s favorite color.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let your perpetual light shine upon him.

May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Amen.
