This weekend, Philip Weise of Catalyst Catholics (Deanery Youth Ministry) shared a few words about Root Groups. These small groups are an opportunity to put down deeper roots in the community, in the Church, and into Christ’s Life. They attempt to gather people around food, conversation, and friendship. Small groups formed in prayer, support, and honesty can be a tremendous way for many people to feel connected and to grow.
While a person might feel some excitement and in trepidation at the idea of sharing, praying, studying, and serving with others around their life in Christ, this may just be the new beginning you need to be a greater disciple of Christ and the Church. Jesus Christ was quite intentional in gathering a small group around Him as a means to build His Church and expand the Kingdom of God. We need our ‘personal relationship’ with Christ, yet that relationship is formed and shaped in the context of other. Jesus’ best friends on earth were among the Twelve in His small group.
