Church Financial Support – July 18, 2012

Posted by admin

What a “CAPITAL” idea!

From 2007 to 2010 the Legacy for our Mission capital campaign was conducted. The majority of these restricted funds were used to renovate the church, but there is a remaining balance of $259,000. We most recently used some of these funds to add a new ceiling to the cafeteria and church lobby. Because the funds are restricted for building improvements, we cannot use them for operations of the parish or to cover our deficit. The funds will be used in the future for large capital needs or repairs and some will be used to initiate another capital campaign that we hope to begin as soon as the parish is more financially stable.

THANK YOU HORSESHOE FOUNDATION!

This June the school was awarded a $15,000 Horseshoe Foundation grant to provide wireless Internet access in the middle school classrooms for online textbooks and resources. Congratulations, Jerry, and your grant writing committee.

Missionary Sister Carol Thresher to visit July 21 & 22

Sister Carol Thresher, SDS, will speak on behalf of the Sisters of the Divine Savior at Holy Family Parish on July 21-22. A special collection will be taken that weekend to benefit SDS international missions. Sisters of the Divine Savior, also known as Salvatorian Sisters, minister on five continents to improve quality of life among people of every faith and culture.

Sister Carol recently began her second three-year term as Provincial Leader for the U.S. Salvatorian Sisters. Trained as an educator, she spent 10 years teaching in elementary and secondary schools in the Milwaukee area, followed by eight years on the staff of the Justice and Peace Center in Milwaukee. In 1982, Sister Carol was missioned to Brazil, where she ministered among the impoverished for 18 years with the Salvatorian Sisters’ São Paulo Province. While still in Brazil, she was asked to develop programs and materials for Salvatorian spirituality retreats. Her efforts led to international formation work with all branches of the Salvatorian Family — priests and brothers, as well as Sisters, and Lay Salvatorian men and women. That ministry took her to Rome, Africa, India, England, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and the Philippines. Sister Carol returned to the U.S. in 2000 and served with the Jordan Ministry Team in Tucson Ariz., and as vicaress for the U.S. Province, headquartered in Milwaukee. Sister Carol observed her 50th jubilee as a vowed religious in June.

The Parish Finance Committee is always open to your suggestions and concerns, and parishioners are welcome to attend the meetings of this committee; please watch the website or bulletin calendars for the time and dates. And, anytime, feel free to contact Carol Goins, Business Manager, at 944-8283 (ext 5) or cagoins@holyfamilynewalbany.org with your suggestions or concerns.
